The barracks were built following the failed Jacobite uprising of 1715. Built to house the British troops, who were stationed there to maintain law and order in the Highlands, it was set alight by the Jacobite’s following the 1745 uprising. Located a mile or so from the town, you can explore the remains of the barracks, as well as getting a great view of the Badenoch flood plain and Spey valley.
