A romantic highland wedding

Make your wedding a memorable occasion in this small romantic Highland town in the Cairngorms National Park. Ideas for a Kingussie wedding are many and varied and you will not need to venture far from this friendly town to find everything you need for that special occasion.

Kingussie, in the upper Spey Valley, is easily accessible to visitors. Situated 1 mile from the main M90/A9 Edinburgh to Inverness trunk road, it has its own railway station with direct trains from London, Edinburgh and Inverness and connections to all major Cities and towns in the UK. Inverness Airport is about 1.5 hours away with car hire available. (click on the “How to Get Here” button for further information)

Let’s start with the marriage ceremony itself:

There are 3 traditional churches in the centre of Kingussie – The Kingussie Parish Church of Scotland, The Free Church and the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Rosary and St Columba. There are many other smaller churches beautifully located in surrounding villages, including St Johns Episcopal Church on the Ski Road at Aviemore.

We have a resident Registrar and depute Registrar licensed to conduct marriages at the newly refurbished former Church House, Talla Nan Ros, (Hall of the Roses), aptly named because of its magnificent stained glass rose window.

Or, you may like to get married in one of Kingussie’s hotels or a more unusual venue. In 2004 a local family chose Historic Scotland’s Ruthven Barracks for their son’s open air Autumn wedding – and even the weather was great! If you or your guests forget those essential items, visit the newsagents for confetti and Aladdin’s Cave at the northern end of the town for bottle openers/glasses and lots more. A photographer and small filmmaker are here too. Highland Dress/kilt hire can be arranged in the neighbouring town of Grantown on Spey. (Click on the “Services” and “Shops” buttons for further information and contact details)

Entertainment:

A Highland wedding, whatever its size, would not be complete without the sound of traditional Scottish bagpipes Many pipers live locally in the Spey Valley - female or male pipers to a full pipeband. Ideas for evening entertainment, should you wish, can be discussed with the proprietors of your chosen venue.

This couple travelled on their own from Hungary for their Christmas wedding. The witnesses to their marriage were the proprietors of the B&B where they stayed. Their comments are printed below

"We chose to get married in Kingussie because the village is picture perfect. You could only see places like Kingussie in movies. When we arrived, we found that all our expectations were met; The Registrar is a wonderful woman, the paperwork was easy, even for us, the ceremony was wonderful – and the people of Kingussie welcomed us as part of their family. It was a wonderful visit, a journey of a lifetime that we always will cherish. We had everything we dreamt of; A fantastic place to stay, Santa Claus and the reindeers on (White) Christmas Eve, breathtaking walks, delicious black pudding and haggis! Thanks to the people of Kingussie, especially John and Elrine Jarratt, our B&B hosts and Mrs McGregor!".

We look forward to welcoming you to Kingussie ……….. and, whilst you and your guests are here, why not stay a while longer; there’s lots to see and do both locally and further afield. Have a look at this site for ideas.
