A Warm Highland Welcome!
Welcome to Kingussie, the capital of Badenoch in the Scottish Highlands. It’s a small, lively town right beside the famous river Spey in the midst of the glorious Cairngorms National Park and almost exactly in the centre of Scotland!
Surrounded by stunning landscape where sports of every kind can be enjoyed from cycling to skiing, golf and fishing to watersports, walking and much more, Kingussie is a paradise for outdoor activities and for those who appreciate invigorating Highland air, dramatic scenery and Highland hospitality.
Visitors can enjoy award-winning restaurants, live music, festivals every month, speciality shops and a wide range of excellent hotels, guesthouses, B&Bs and self-catering accommodation. Travelling here couldn’t be easier – either by car on the A9, by national rail and bus services or even using cycle routes .
Once you’re here you will find a wide range of cycle tracks in the immediate area and footpaths for walking, including our fascinating Town Trail. Nearby there are several award-winning visitor attractions, and there are plenty more to discover across the whole of Scotland's largest National Park.
In 2013 a new initiative was launched called “Little Town of Festivals” putting together a year round programme of festivals from films and food to music, art, cycling and much more. There is also a full programme of shinty matches at our pitch, The Dell, reflecting the importance of this sport to Kingussie, where the Camanachd Association was founded and the first rules for shinty were formalised in 1893.
The name Kingussie (Gaelic: Ceann a' Ghiùthsaich) means ‘head of the pine forest’, and this small community is a breath of fresh air in more ways than one. Not only is the quality of the air very pure, but it is also full of innovative and creative people who generate exciting events and initiatives and run innovative businesses for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.
Kingussie was founded in the late 18th Century by the Duke of Gordon. Details of all the major historic events in our history can be found on the History Timeline.
