Harnessing the potential of Badenoch’s Cultural Heritage was the focus of a workshop that was held at Talla nan Ros, Kingussie, last Thursday (22nd August). Local community members from throughout Badenoch joined representatives from agencies including High Life Highland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the Royal Commission for Ancient Historical Monuments of Scotland, CNPA, RSPB and local councillors, for a brainstorming afternoon. Organised by Am Fasgadh Regeneration Company Ltd (ARC) in conjunction with Strengthening Communities, the workshop is the first step in developing a strategy for Cultural Heritage in Badenoch, which will capitalise on our historical heritage and promote it as a key attraction for heritage visitors.
Fiona McLean, Cultural Heritage Outreach Project Manager for ARC said, ‘All the delegates worked hard at identifying a way forward for Badenoch in promoting its Cultural Heritage assets. We can use the information gathered on the day in creating a strategy which will put Badenoch on the Cultural Heritage map’. Fiona’s post is funded by Cairngorms Leader, CNPA and Highland Council until the end of the year, in order to put in place a Cultural Heritage Strategy for the area.
Mairi Brown, Chair of ARC said, ‘We were delighted by the response not only from local groups but also from national bodies. The event was just the start. The hard work is now underway - a lot of useful information, opinions and ideas were generated. Our job now is to prepare the report, consult and take the work forward - no small task - but we have a good, high quality team and determination by the bucket load.’
