Basic Mapwork & Navigation - Cairngorms Learning Partnership

Course Details
This course is aimed at beginners, mainly those interested in walking, who want to improve their confidence in using maps and compasses.
The course will cover Map reading, Route Planning, Navigating & Awareness of GPS and Outdoor Access Code.

The course will consist of 2 indoor sessions followed by an outdoor practical session which will take place near the Kingussie golf course, in Tom Bharaidh Woods and on the rugged area of small hills around 300m to the north of the Woods and east of the the Gynack Burn

Kingussie Walkfest

The annual Kingussie Walkfest this year will form part of the Cairngorms Nature Festival 2016 on Saturday 14th May.

The event will involve a guided walk around Loch Gynack, the official opening of a new section on footpath and a visit to the Pitmain Hydro-electric scheme. After returning down the Gynack burn there will be an opportunity to visit and find out more about the KCDC Hydro-electric project.

Meet Ardvonie Park Kingussie on Saturday 14 May, 10am.

Itineraries through time - maps of Badenoch from the 16th century to the present day

Speaker : Christopher Fleet, Senior Map Curator with the National Library of  Scotland where his main responsibilities relate to digital mapping and making maps available on line. He co-authored Scotland : Mapping the Nation and has just published Edinburgh : Mapping the City

Everyone interested is invited, even if you do not  intend to walk on Saturday.

Kingussie Health Walk

Every Thursday - a short, safe, social, local, low-level, led walk. Starts: 10 am. Meet at the Badenoch Centre for an easy Health Walk suitable for most abilities. Up to 1 hour, low-level, led walk. Post-walk refreshment at a local cafe (pay your own way).
